Privacy Policy
Last updated 18 August 2026
Thumbly is designed to be private. We do not require an account, email address or password. This policy explains what we collect, why, who it is shared with, and how to delete it.
What we collect
- An anonymous device identifier. Generated on your device and used to associate your subscription, credits and generated images with your device. It is not your name, email or Apple ID, and we cannot use it to identify you personally.
- The text you write. Your thumbnail descriptions, titles and on-image text.
- Photos you choose to upload. Optional. A photo of yourself used as an identity reference, and an optional style reference image.
- Generated images. The thumbnails Thumbly creates for you.
- Purchase status. Whether you have an active subscription and your remaining credits, via our payments provider.
We do not collect your contacts, location, browsing history or advertising identifiers. Thumbly contains no advertising or tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
Photos and third-party AI processing
Adding a photo is optional — Thumbly works from a written description alone, and paid features never require you to grant photo access.
If you do add a photo, it is uploaded to our servers and sent to our third-party AI image generation provider solely to produce your thumbnails. We ask for your explicit permission before this happens, and we name the processing at that point.
Your photos and prompts are never used to train AI models, and never used for advertising, profiling or analytics. We do not sell your data.
Who we share data with
- Our AI image generation provider — receives your prompt and any uploaded photo in order to generate an image.
- Our cloud storage provider — stores your uploaded and generated images.
- Our payments/subscription provider and Apple — process your purchase and tell us whether your subscription is active.
These providers process data on our behalf under contract and are required to protect it to at least the standard described here.
Content safety
Text you submit is screened automatically before an image is generated, to block sexual content, content depicting minors, graphic violence, hate symbols and likenesses of real public figures. Reported content is reviewed within 24 hours, and devices that repeatedly violate our policy may be blocked.
Retention and deletion
We keep your generated images and uploaded photos until you delete them.
- Delete one item: open the Library tab, tap a thumbnail, choose Delete.
- Delete everything: open Settings and choose Delete My Data. This permanently erases your generated images, uploaded photos, prompt history, credits and settings from our servers, and clears the anonymous identifier from your device. It cannot be undone.
Your subscription is tied to your Apple Account rather than to this record, so deleting your data does not cancel it. Cancel in the iOS Settings app under your name → Subscriptions, and use Restore Purchases to regain access.
Withdrawing consent
You can withdraw consent for photo processing at any time by deleting your data as described above. You can continue using Thumbly with written descriptions only.
Children
Thumbly is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete the associated data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update this page and the date above, and surface the change in the app.
